Martin P. J. Kratz

Martin P.J. Kratz leads the Technology Law Practice group for Bennett Jones LLP. His practice includes establishment of strategic alliances, mergers, acquisitions and technology transfers among technology companies and has a particular focus on the electronic commerce, Internet, electronics, software, computer, telecommunication, biotechnology and related industries as well as the biotechnology and related industry. Mr. Kratz is one of Canada's leading lawyers addressing problems involving the Internet and his clients include major ISPs, users, electronic commerce businesses, providers of software, Internet technology and infrastructure. He has also been very prominent in address issues affecting biotechnology and related businesses and in respect of complex intellectual property issues. Mr. Kratz continues to be identified as one of Canada's 500 leading lawyers and was also ranked among the top information technology law lawyers in Canada by L'expert and American Lawyer Media publications. He is also identified as a leading lawyer by Mondaq in their Guide to the World's Leading Internet and E-Commerce Advisors. Mr. Kratz has published over 170 articles or books on various topics involving advanced technology and law. Martin Kratz is an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Law where he teaches Internet Law, Intellectual Property Law and Biotechnology Law. He teaches Internet Law and Biotechnology Law at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law. He teaches a technology law course at Concordia University College. Mr. Kratz taught, as lead national instructor, E-Property Law for Osgoode Hall Law School's E-Business Law LLM program, has taught, as a local instructor, the E-Regulation and E-Transactions courses. He also acts as a Regional Director of the E-Business LLM program and Osgoode Hall Law School's "Intellectual Property Law" LLM program.

Among other memberships, Martin is a member of the American Bar Association’s Science & Technology, Patent, Copyright & Trademark, Sports & Entertainment and International Sections, a member of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, a Fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada, and a member of the Advocacy Committee of the Canadian Information Processing Society.
