Gina Smith is a career technology and science journalist and author.
Gina Smith is one of the best-known commentators on technology and science today. She was a long-time on-air correspondent covering technology for ABC News World News Tonight with Peter Jennings and Good Morning America, as well as an award-winning syndicated newspaper columnist and the host of the weekly talk-show On Computers with Gina Smith, heard in more than 100 cities nationwide for three hours every Sunday.
Smith is especially known for her writing. Her 2005 book, The Genomics Age: How DNA Is Changing The Way We Live and Who We Are, was listed as the top 12 book of the year by Barron's Magazine. Her next book, iWOZ: How I invented the Personal Computer and Had Fun Along the Way, will be out from WW Norton in November.
From 2000 to 2003, she was CEO of New Internet Computer, or NIC, a Larry Ellison funded company.
A 1985 graduate of FSU in Chemistry and English, Smith is an active speaker and moderator at tech and science events, typically focusing on technology, science and futurism. Among her many awards, she was named an FSU Honored Alumnus in 1999, named one of the '100 Most Influential in Technology Industry' in 2001 and appointed to the University of Southern California engineering school's board in 2002. She is currently working on her fifth book, tentatively titled Five Threats To Humanity.
