FAR is the professional institute for authorised public accountants (auktoriserade revisorer), approved public accountants (godkända revisorer) and other highly qualified professionals in the accountancy sector in Sweden. FAR includes most of Sweden's 2,400 authorised public accountants, who until 28 February 2001 were the only professionals eligible under the FAR Constitution. An increasing number of approved public accountants and specialists are joining FAR. FAR plays a leading role in the development of professional standards, education and information for the audit profession in Sweden.
FAR publishes books, journals and newsletters, and arranges conferences and seminars on professional issues. FAR acts through its Council, standing committees, ad-hoc working parties and district societies, and through its permanent secretariat in Stockholm. FAR contributes actively to the work of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB), the Fédération des Experts Comptables Européens (FEE) and the Nordic Federation of Public Accountants.
