David J. Reibstein

David J. Reibstein is the William S. Woodside Professor and Professor of Marketing at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Together with ACS co-founder Mark Chussil, he developed ACS's ValueWar® competitive-strategy simulator.

Prior to his appointment at Wharton, he served for five years as Assistant Professor of Marketing at the Harvard Business School (1975-80). He was also a Visiting Professor of Marketing at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France (1983) and at Stanford University (1987).

At Wharton he teaches Marketing Management and Marketing Research in the MBA program. He developed and coordinated Wharton's Executive Seminar on New Product Development and Marketing Research, as well as several others. He was featured in Fortune magazine as one of the nation's eight Favorite Business School Professors." He has received The Wharton School's Excellence in Teaching Award every year since it was initiated in 1982. In 1987 he won the honor at The Wharton School for having the best student ratings over the preceding two years.

Prior to his academic career Professor Reibstein was employed in the marketing department of Sauter Laboratories, a division of Hoffman-LaRoche Pharmaceutical Company.

Professor Reibstein is co-author (with Mark Chussil) of Strategy Analysis with ValueWar, published in the Scientific Press series by boyd & fraser. He is also the author of Marketing: Concepts, Strategies, and Decisions (Prentice-Hall), co-author of Cases in Marketing Research (Prentice-Hall), and co-editor of Wharton on Dynamic Competitive Strategy (John Wiley). He also has authored numerous articles appearing in major marketing journals, including the Journal of Marketing Research, Marketing Science, Harvard Business Review, Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Marketing, and Journal of Consumer Research.

He has consulted and run executive programs for a number of companies including AT&T, General Electric, Digital Equipment Company, Rohm and Haas, Dean Witter Reynolds, Campbell's Soup, and numerous others.

Professor Reibstein received his Ph.D. in Industrial Administration at Purdue University, was in the MBA program at Tulane University, and obtained his B.A. in Statistics and Political Science and his B.S. in Business Administration at the University of Kansas. He also received an honorary Masters from the University of Pennsylvania.
